Whiskies in Car Racing

I don't know why people think whisky as an old-fashioned drink. This year whisky giants show us how they think - three of the biggest brands started to sponsor the most popular car racing series targeting racing fans. Jack Daniel's and Jim Beam invested in racing teams of the Nextel Cup Series, or NASCAR, while Johnnie Walker set up a partnership with Team McLaren Mercedes in Formula 1. The sponsorship of racing teams aimed to attract not only car racing freaks, but all the billions of viewers around the world, who follows those circus from week to week. This is now possible after lifting the ban on having spirit sponsors in NASCAR for years. Jack Daniel's driver is the experienced NASCAR driver, Dave Blaney, and the car is the No.7 Chevrolet Monte Carlo. Jim Beam is the proud sponsor of both NASCAR (Nextel Cup Series) and Indy Car with Jim Beam driver Robby Gordon in Nascar and Dan Wheldon in Indy Car. Altough Johnnie Walker is "only" a co-sponsor of Team McLaren Mercedes, but still spends a lot on sponsoring the Formula 1 race cars of Kimi Raikkonen and Juan Pablo Montoya. You can however ask why's all that fuss about, or how spirits link to pro drivers, or even what about "don't drink & drive" - don't ask me. The official opinion of these brands is that pro drivers are the best celebrities to convice people of moderate drinking. Well, everyone shall decide.

Nem is értem, hogy egyesek miért tartják a whiskyt régimódi italnak. Idén a whisky-óriások megmutatják, hogy ők egyáltalán nem így gondolják - a világ legnagyobb whisky-márkái közül három is belevágott a legnépszerűbb autóversenyek szponzorálásába. A Jack Daniel's és a Jim Beam a NASCAR (Nextel Cup Series) csapatait támogatja, míg a Johnnie Walker együttműködési megállapodást kötött a Forma 1-es McLaren Mercedes csapattal. Az autóversenyek szponzoraként nem csak a Forma 1 szerelmeseit éri el hirdetéseivel, hanem több milliárd embert, aki valamennyire követi az autóversenyek eseményeit. E hirdetési lehetőség azután került előtérbe, miután a NASCAR szervezői hosszú évek után először engedélyezték szeszesitalok számára a csapatok szponzorálását. A Jack Daniel's versenyzője a NASCAR egy tapasztalt pilótája, Dave Blaney, versenyautója pedig a 7-es számú fekete Chevrolet Monte Carlo. A Jim Beam két versenysorozatban is indított csapatot. Robby Gordon pilótát a NASCAR-ban, illetve Dan Wheldont az Indy Car bajnokságban. Jóllehet a Johnnie Walker "csak" társ-szponzora a McLaren Mercedes csapatnak, mégis rengeteget költ a Forma 1-es Kimi Raikkonen és Juan Pablo Montoya autóinak támogatására. Persze felmerül a kérdés, hogy mire is a felhajtás, mi köze lehet az alkoholnak a profi autóversenyzőkhöz, vagy méginkább, hol marad ilyenkor a "ne vezess ittasan" szlogen - hát, fogalmam sincs. A cégek hivatalos álláspontja szerint ezen ismert autóversenyzők tudják az embereket a leghitelesebben meggyőzni a mérsékelt alkoholfogyasztás előnyeiről. Amúgy pedig mindenki gondol, amit akar.
