Master Distillers create a unique vatted American whiskey

The Distilled Spirits Council of US and Historic Mount Vernon hosted a whiskey vatting and tasting event with master distillers on the grounds of the George Washington Distillery at Mount Vernon, VA, where the nation's Founding Father ran the largest whiskey distillery in the 18th century America. At the event, casks of the most famous American whiskey brands (Jack Daniel's, Jim Beam, Maker's Mark, Wild Turkey and others) were opened after they had been aging under special license at an undisclosed location on the grounds of Mount Vernon. The newly created, "married" whiskey, as a distinct "vatted" American whiskey, was then placed in new casks and returned to its undisclosed location. A limited edition of 250 bottles will be bottled and sold on September 28, when the Media Tour of American Whiskey Trail will start. The Distilled Spirits Council of US announced its tour visiting legendary Kentucky and Tennessee distilleries of the American Whiskey Trail from Sept 28 to Oct 2. Stops on the tour include Jack Daniel's, Jim Beam, Maker's Mark, Wild Turkey, Woodford Reserve, and George Dickel. The tour will kick-off at a historic and festive celebration at George Washington Distillery at Mount Vernon, on Sep 28. On that day, rum distillers from US and its territories will produce an 18th century style rum in an 18th century pot still over an open flame on the ground of the historic estate.
