Macallan in Lalique decanter

The Macallan and the French crystal house Lalique launched a limited edition decanter this November. The first Lalique decanter within The Macallan 50 yo single malt was launched two years ago. The new "The Natural Colour" decanter is the second in what is planned to be a series of six and contains a rare The Macallan 55 yo single malt whisky. The decanter itself was created by the Lalique design team in Paris and is based on a classic perfume bottle designed by Rene Lalique in 1910. As the design originates from a perfume bottle, it is a wee bit feminine in its shape. The stopper of the bottle is also made of crystal: an amber coloured crystal which is one of the most difficult colours for crystal makers to produce. I don't have information on the whisky contained in that fancy crystal bottle, but it must be some real good stuff. It was distilled and put in casks for ageing in 1952. Look what else happened in 1952: General Eisenhower (R) elected the 34th President of US; Pulitzer Prize awarded to Herman Wouk; 15th modern Olympic Games in Helsinki and the 6th Olympic winter games in Oslo; Liz Taylor second marriage; first B-52 test flight; Shostakovich completes his 5th string quartet; "Today Show" premieres on NBC; Ernest Hemmingway's "Old Man and Sea" published; European Parliament forms in Strasbourg; and NY Yankees beat Dodgers 4 games to 3 in the 49th World Series of Baseball. So that was a great year (except the situation in Hungary those days) ... must be a great whisky. Unfortunately, I will hardly have a chance to taste it as it has a price of US$12,000 and produced only 420 bottles.

A The Macallan és a francia Lalique kristály-cég egy korlátozott számban készített decanter whiskyvel rukkolt elő idén novemberben. Az első hasonló Lalique decanterbe csomagolt The Macallan 50 éves maláta whisky 2 évvel ezelőtt került a boltokba. Ez az új "The Natural Colour" decanter, amely 55 éves The Macallan maláta whiskyt tartalmaz, második egy majdan hat darabból álló sorban. A decantert a Lalique párizsi központjában tervezték egy Rene Lalique által még 1910-ben tervezett klasszikus parfümös üveg alapján. Parfümös üveg lévén a mostani decanter is egy picit nőiesre sikeredett. Érdekesség, hogy a decanter dugója is kristályból készül, méghozzá olyan borostyán színben, amelynek elkészítése a kristálymesterek számára az egyik legnehezebb feladat. A whiskyről magáról sajnos nem sok információm van, de nagyon jónak kell lennie. 1952-ben párolták le és tették hordókba érlelésre. Nézzük csak, mi más történt 1952-ben: Eisenhower lett az USA 34-ik elnöke; Herman Wouk kapta a Pulitzer díjat; Helsinkiben megrendezték a 15-i nyári Olimpiát és Osloban a 6-ik télit; Liz Taylor másodszor is férjhez ment; a B-52 bombázó felszállt első berepülésére; Sosztakovics megírta 5-ik vonósnégyesét; elindult a Today Show az NBC tv-csatornán; kiadták Hemmingway Az öreg halász és a tenger című művét; megalakult az Európa Parlament Strasbourgban; és a New York Yankees 4-3-ra verte a Dodgerst a 49-ik Baseball Világkupa döntőben. Nem volt rossz év (eltekintve az akkori Magyarországi helyzettől és életkörülményektől) ... nagyszerű whisky kell, hogy legyen. Sajnos, nem nagyon lesz lehetőségem megkóstolni, mert csak 420 palackkal készítenek belőle egy palack ára pedig 12.000 dollár.
