Glenmorangie Margaux Cask Finish

Glenmorangie’s master distiller Bill Lumsden raised the standard of whisky to new heights with his Margaux Cask Finish. The Glenmorangie Margaux Cask Finish is quite spectacular, being the only whisky to claim having spent its last two years in a used Margaux wine barrel. Glenmorangie managed to get 10 barrels or barriques from the House of Margaux in the French Bordeaux region which, in itself, was quite a feat. It paid off indeed. The Margaux Cask Finish is a sensational marriage of the spirit of Scotch and the soul of French wines. Cask finishing is vital to imparting further character to malt whisky and for over 10 years, Glenmorangie has been experimenting with the use of different types of casks in which to "finish" the maturation of malt whisky, with great success. They also hand-craft Madeira, Port, Malaga, Sherry and Burgundy Finish. And now, we can add wine barriques to the list. The unique Glenmorangie Margaux Cask Finish, of which there is only a limited edition of 3,588 bottles produced, is hand numbered and signed by the Master Distiller. In 1987 the malt was filled into ex-bourbon hogshead casks and left to mature until 2004, then it was transferred into the ex-Margaux barriques. I had no chance to taste this masterpiece - it costs ?220 a bottle - but as the tasting notes say it is intensely sensuous in colour, aroma and taste. Silky, smooth texture and fruity, spicy aromas.

A különböző, a whiskyt megelőzően más és más nemes ital érlelésére használt hordókban való érleléssel a Glenmorangie immár több mint 10 éve kísérletezik, és elmondhatjuk, hogy nagy sikerrel, hiszen már több fajta különlegességet is sikerült így készíteniük. Produkáltak már Madeira, Portói, Sherry, Burgundy vagy Malaga boros hordóban utóérlelt skót maláta whiskyt. És ehhez most hozzátehetjük a Margaux hordóban érlelt változatot is. Ez az egyedülálló Glenmorangie Margaux Cask Finish mindössze 3.588 palackos limitált szériában készült. Minden palack sorszámozott és a lepárló mester által személyesen aláírt. A maláta whiskyt 1987-ben töltötték hogshead hordókba, amelyekben előtte bourbon whiskeyt érleltek, majd 2004-ben áttöltötték a Margaux boros hordókba. Sajnos nem volt szerencsém megkóstolni ezt a remekművet - mivel egy palack 220 angol fontba, majd' 90.000 Ft-ba kerül - de akik kóstolták, úgy írnak róla mint mind illatában, ízében, aromájában nagyon erősen érzéki ital. Lágy, selymes textúrájú ital, gyümölcsös, fűszeres ízvilággal.
