Get ready - Whisky programs

From "whisky" point of view, February is lazy compared to Jan and March. There is the Burn's Night at the end of Jan, and St. Patrick's Day mid March. There should be some American whiskey celebration in February. But there is not. Instead, I was invited to a sort of a carnival night. At least I had the opportunity to wear my kilt again. It's a great fun. Especially after drinking a half bottle of Grant's.

Whisky szempontból nézve a február egy kicsit unalmas a januárhoz és márciushoz viszonyítva. Január végén ott a Burn's Night, március közepén pedig a St.Patrick nap. Februárban valami amerikai whiskeyvel kapcsolatos ünneplésnek kellene következnie. De nem következik. Ehelyett elmentem egy farsangi mulatságra, ami legalább újabb lehetőséget adott, hogy felvegyem a kiltemet (kilt=skót szoknya). Furcsa, de élvezetes dolog skót szoknyában rohangálni. Főleg, ha az ember már megivott egy félüveg Grant's whiskyt az este.

Whisky test in Decanter

Couple of weeks without internet connection. What a terrible feeling! I felt like loosing the connection with the outer world. We moved into a new apartment, and there was no internet in the first couple of weeks. (Not to mention how worried I was to be able to move my many dozens of whisky collection without any damage.) I have just installed my brand new wifi router. So, I'm back. In the meantime, I was invited for a whisky tasting organized by the Hungarian edition of Decanter. Together with some local reps of well-known whisky brands, we tested 21 of Scotch Blends and Single Malts. I was asked to help the editor team to set up the tasting ... just to avoid such mistakes as we would tasting first a peaty, smoky Islay Malt which would change or simply spirit away the character and taste of the lighter whiskies tasted afterwards. I will keep you posted about the result as soon as it is published. Soon there will be the next round of whisky tasting, when we will compare Bourbons, Irish and Canadian brands.

Néhány hét internet-kapcsolat nélkül. Rettenetes érzés. Mintha elveszett volna a külvilággal való minden kapcsolat. Brrr. Átkozott XXI. század, digitális kor, miegyéb. Új lakásba költöztünk és természetesen nem volt internet az első pár héten. (Arról nem is beszélve, mennyire aggódtam, hogy kár esik a több tucatnyi whiskyt tartalmazó gyűjteményemben.) Na most végre beüzemeltem a remek, modern wifi routeremet. Mindeközben meghívott egy whisky-tesztre a Decanter magazin hazai kiadója. A különféle whiskymárkák magyarországi képviselőivel együtt 21 skót blended és maláta whiskyt kóstoltunk és értékeltünk végig. És engem kértek fel, hogy segítsek összeállítani a teszt sorrendjét ... márcsak, hogy elkerüljünk olyan alapvető hibákat minthogy egy tőzeges, füstös Islay szigeteki maláta esetleg agyoncsapja az utána következő könnyedebb maláta whiskyk ízét és karakterét. Mindenesetre írok majd a teszt eredményéről, amint megjelenik. Hamarosan lesz egy következő hasonló teszt, ahol bourbon, ír és kanadai whisk(e)yket fogunk értékelni.
